The South Padre Island Community Foundation was formed in May 1992, originally as the South Padre Island Area Fund, a Subchapter of the Community Foundation of Texas with offices in Dallas. Some years later, the organization separated and formed independently the South Padre Island Community Foundation, a Community-oriented nonprofit 501 C (3) Corporation. The organization was established to respond to long term as well as emerging needs
of the Community. Acting as a catalyst and conveyer, the South Padre Island Community Foundation, under its broad and benevolent mandate, supports worthwhile projects and channels resources to appropriate recipients
within the community.

Blending local traditions with current needs, the South padre Island Community Foundation functions primarily as a grant making institution, but may also function as
-a conduit to perpetuate the philanthropic intentions of the donors for the benefit of the Community.

The South Padre Island Community Foundation is governed by a board up of local volunteers with expertise and knowledge of the Community. The Board is assisted by an Advisory Board with membership from throughout the area.

The goal of the South Padre Island Community Foundation is to provide assistance to local organizations and causes that will make South Padre Island a better place to live and visit, as well as enhance the culture of the area. These efforts are funded by donations, fund-raisers and a well managed endowment that will produce a steady flow of funds for the future. Your help and support will be appreciated.
Community Foundation Donates To Local Projects
The South Padre Island Foundation Board of Directors meet on an annual basis to review grant requests for area projects.

A sure sign of the Foundation's growth is its ability to give to the community.

This year, the Foundation made two substantial grants to South Padre Island projects. A grant in the amount of $25,000 payable over a five-year period was made to the World Birding Center and second grant in the amount of $10,000 to Sea Turtle, Inc.

Both of these organizations provide benefits to the community in several ways and fit the criteria of the Foundation. They provide local awareness of resources that our community has that may have either been taken for granted or overlooked. Both are huge attractions in our tourist-oriented

economy and provide education to thousands of school children who receive a hands onappreciation for nature, otherwise, they have only read about in textbooks. These experiences help make the children better citizens and stewards of our fragile ecosystem. In addition, both organizations will provide these benefits to the South Padre Island community for years to come.

Evening With The Stars Sparks Imagination, Benefits Foundation
What a way to spend an evening on an Island... Classic movies, mingling with your favorite "stars", wonderful food and free popcorn... all while raising funds for the South Padre Island Community Foundation. Lighted marquees with sponsor names, arrivals of VIPS in limousines, walks down the red carpet, cameras flashing amid throngs waiting to see this year's favorite movie choices.

Last year's favorite choices were "The Big Sleep" and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". This year's Elvis Presley theme, complete with Elvis impersonator and swooning girls - was over the top - followed by the movie "Blue Hawaii".

No wonder smiles abounded and the buzz was "What's will we see next year?" It just keeps getting better! Evening With the Stars happens again next September so mark your calendar.

Bike Fest

For the past three years the South Padre Island Community Foundation has assisted Bike Fest during their annual rally. Community Foundation members and helpers roll up their sleeves and staff all the ticket booths, selling thousand of tickets over a three day period. It is a fun time and a good opportunity for Foundation members to welcome visitors to our community. It is also a fundraiser for the Foundation as Bike Fest makes a donation from their profits.

Endowment Fund Growing
The South Padre Island Community Foundation Endowment Fund was established in 2002 to hold and accumulate funds for the South padre Island Community Foundation. The goal of the endowment is to provide a source of permanent funding for the organization. The principal of the Endowment is invested and a substantial part of the income it produces is used when making annual grants. It is therefore anticipated the Endowment Fund will continue to grow.

The fund is the result of donations, hard work and dedication of people who love the Island.

The Endowment Fund currently holds approximately $450,000 with a future goal set of $1,000,000. This will ensure that the South padre Island Community Foundation will be able to make a significant difference on an annual basis to the South padre Island area.

Advisory Board
As with any great organization, in order to make it successful and to continue that success, it must have a good team. The South padre Island Community Foundation Advisory Board welcomes new members. It is a fun and rewarding way to get

new members. It is a fun and rewarding way to getinvolved in helping your community. We invite you to contact any of the Board Members for details on serving on the Advisory Board.
